From Victoria, Canada
I can't believe it's been 3 weeks since my last post. Time flies so fast. I am writing this from Victoria, Canada, where Talend is supporting our new partner Camptocamp for their product launch at the FOSS4G conference. Spatial Data Integrator, Powered by Talend, is a geospatial extension to Talend Open Studio.
Well, the first thing I have to say is that you must be pretty motivated to make it all the way to Victoria, BC. It's out of the beaten paths! But people who managed to escape their hotel and convention center say it's beautiful - hopefully I'll be able to get a peek before I leave tomorrow...
Getting there wasn't that easy. Especially when AA managed to cancel the remaining segments of my itinerary while I was over the Atlantic Ocean. A very helpful gate agent at DFW managed to get me to Victoria. But the Exec Platinum phone desk was completely clueless and helpless - fortunately the nice people in Dublin were able to sort out the situation this morning. So I am not stuck in Victoria and will be able to fly to San Francisco tomorrow as planned!
While I am on the FOSS4G topic, I want to mention a great keynote we had yesterday: Damian Conway in his address "Geek Eye for the Suit Guy" looked look at Open Source issues through geek eyes - and this provided a very entertaining talk.
More later... if AA does not lose me somewhere in Alaska!

Briefings... and coverage
This week Talend announced a strategic partnership with SugarCRM, the leading open source CRM vendor. I had the pleasure of talking again with some old friends and acquaintances, when our PR firm set up briefings with members of the media and analyst communities. Of course Shawn Rogers of the B-Eye-Network was interested in the news. So was Madan Sheina of Computer Business Review, and Elliot Kind of DBTA 5 Minutes Briefing (this last call was today, so I'll give him a few days to write about the news!). James Governor or RedMonk also picked up the news.
I did all these briefings with Paul Oh of Sugar, who was great about playing our the whole partnership story, and how we would all benefit from this alliance (Sugar, Talend, and the users). Thanks Paul!
This week, I also heard from a former colleague, from 2 sources at the same time! Bob Zurek was at Powersoft when SDP, the maker of PowerDesigner, was bought by Sybase (which had just bought Powersoft). Since I was running marketing for SDP at that time, I got to meet Bob... and our pathes have kept crossing since then. Bob is now CTO of EnterpriseDB. Andy Lampitt who was also at SDP sent me this blog post where Bob names Talend #5 of 10 Fantastic Free Open Source Downloads For The Enterprise. And at the same time my PR sent it to me! Great blog monitoring, guys! Who needs Google alerts...
