No Pain, No BI

Before attempting to implement a BI system, a BI consultant must clearly identify a business pain and let the clients see that. Stronger the pain, stronger the executive sponsorship you will gain for your BI project. Good example of such pain includes inconsistent data throughout the organization, misalignment of strategy, poor communication among business units, and slow and ineffective executive decision, all of which will cost the organization in a Herculeous way. It is critical to first identify these pains and gain a strong, committed sponsorship from the C-level leaders. Without these strong sponsorship from the top, many BI projects stumble along the way.

One of our clients is experiencing a notable business pain - disconnection between budget and performance. It is urgent for the agency to implement a performance-based budgeting system in order to comply with a government mandate - BPI (Budget and Performance Integration) - and secure additional funding every year. In our implementation process, we first attempt to identify such pain because it allows us to receive a continued executive sponsorship - a critical success factor for all BI projects.
