Data models vs. Data visualization

Whereas it's probably pretty futile to argue whether data models is more important than data visualization or the other way around, I'm surprised by Andy Hayler's way of talking about "flashy tools" here.

In reality great data visualization will drive needs for clever data models, and awesome data models will nicely feed great visualization.

New business models will build around new boundaries, and not around old boundaries. For example, "customers in US who can buy expensive hand-bags" vs. "customers, at a global level, whose life-style matches such hand-bags". This life-style match will result in a "social analysis" concept - that in turn will define new industries, new business models, and, hence, new strategies. Hand-bag will be sold by life-style managers - not the typical retailers.
