On-Demand BI: An Idea Whose Time Has Come
I recently wrote an article for DM Review that talks about the exploding potential for on-demand BI. In my article, I talk about how BI is ideally suited to being delivered via the emerging software-as-a-service model. On-demand BI will allow companies that previously were unable to afford a traditional BI solution to harness the power of BI, with much lower cost and complexity. We see this as a critical step towards "BI for the masses": lower costs and no IT maintenance means that mid-size companies, as well as business units within larger organizations, can get in on the BI game.

BI Appliance Deployed at Top Energy Company
We recently announced another appliance customer: the Midwest ISO. The Midwest ISO is a leading regional grid operator, managing one of the world's largest energy markets and clearing more than $2 billion in energy transactions a month.
They evaluated several BI solutions but ultimately chose to go with the appliance model because of the simplicity and speed of deploying the appliance.

BI On Demand
I'm excited to get started on blogging again after taking a hiatus to complete the Cognos transaction. BI On Demand is really taking off and is set to dramatically shift the business intelligence market over the next few years. Some of the topics I'm looking forward to blogging about include best practices for operational BI, the organizational impact of pervasive BI, how dashboards change how people think about the business, how new delivery models like appliances and SaaS are enabling BI to reach new frontiers, and many other thoughts from the front lines. I'm also hoping to share examples of how other companies are using On Demand technology to make a major difference in their business.
Of course, I will also use this blog to keep readers updated on the integration of Celequest technology into the Cognos performance management platform.
I hope that my colleagues will chime in with their thoughts and insights along the way.
