Numbers, statistics and data: italian magazines started to explore a brand new world
Nova24 ( an italian weekly small-magazine about innovation, creativity and ict ) yesterday spoke about the meanings of numbers and some issues related to social aspects involved by statistics and the overload of data in our always connected world.
I found interesting that, for the first time, the magazine started to discover the core-world of information discovery and generation.
The articles, clear and very well wroten, was focused just on statistics and numbers;; if the core point was around the creation, the sources and the delivery process of data, none of the articles investigated the users points of view in terms of "using data to do something.
The articles spoke a bit about "user just as a component of the social issues related to aspects emerged in projects like GapMinder and ManyEyes even if, to me, these projects could have been investigated further in terms of opportunities and innovation.
Almost two monthes ago, Focus, another Italian monthly magazine spoke about maps and visual representation of data ( its possibile to see some images online ).
The interesting point is that any of the journalists spoke about the role of information visualization ( or better, information aesthetics ): maybe next time
