Infovis: a mass tool to understand war conseguences
As a first post of 2007, I would like to point your attention to an usefull service offered by the NewYorkTime its called "3000 faces of death".
Its a web based infovis tool that intends to show in analytical way data about US army people died in Iraq war; it could be considered as a sort of small evolution of the Minards famous interactive infographic.
The most accurate part of the application is the "Analysis area, where its possible to understand when and where people died in Iraq.
The application uses Dynamic Querying to display, according to the selected time period, the total amonut of died men, their age groups, race, Type of Duty, Branch and the geografical areas involved.
To improve data understanding I think that some other features could be added; for example asking about which was the worst day for White men or when people have been killed in the Falluja region and more relational questions.
Actionscript technology have been used once more to offer a broader audicence infovis web based application.
