Speaking at Politecnico di Torino
On November, the 15th I have been invited as guest lecturer to spoke to design students at Politecnico in Turin about infovis.
It seems that November is going to be a neverending month....

A new usefull resource
Thank to Moritz Stefaner ( that we have interviewed some weeks ago ),
we now have a new resource to bookmark: http://well-formed-data.net/; a collection of thoughts, experiments and posts on infovis and UX.
I found 2 very interesting experimental demo: "the relational tag cloud and the "time relational gaps visualizer".

Yahoo TimeCapsule
I would like to let you know a new interesting project by Jonathan Harris promoted by Yahoo: Time Capsule ( some screenshots I made are also available ).
Its intended as an antropological experiment suited to teach future generations what the world was like in 2006.
The idea is collect and share experiences among users collecting their contributions till November 8th and store data till 2020.
I also suggest to have a look to TheTimeWhen, a project launched last year regarding sharing and relating personal facts to world history events.
It seems to me that an interesting new trend is emerging from the social networks and softwares: create a common, shared, persistent, global digital memory.

Orbit, opensource mobile ria framework
According to what I read on the openlaszlo announce page we are going to take part a new revolution: the Orbit project!
Basically the innovation is that Sun and Laszlo joined the efforts to create a single opensource framework based on a XML language ( the openlaszlo LZX ) to create Ajax, Flash and J2ME applications !!!
It seems to me that in next monthes we are going to reach a new way of thinking to multi-channel ria development; OpenLaszlo is continuosly growing up as a stable opensource platform and now it will offer the chance to create portable ria applications with a good quality in terms of user experience and in term of software development costs.
We will wait for some demos but I think that Adobe could be suffer from this cool solution.

Speaking at Politecnico di Milano, Design Faculty

Speaking at World Usability Day 2006
This year I have been invited to talk for a very brief speaking, to the WorldUsabilityDay2006 ( WUD06 ) that will take place in Milan, on November the 14th.
I will talk mainly about usability issues invlved in "creating information form a big quantity of complex and multivariate data.
The whole speaking would be in Italian.

Eqo, mobile VOIP and IM
After testing the Fring service and having used Agile Messenger till the free trial has expired, I searched for some other mobile IM and VOIP solutions.
I discovered and tested eqo, that allows IM Chats using almost the world big services ( including google talk, jabber, MSN, AOL, yahoo ) and also let users doing mobile-skype.
This final process ( mobile skype ) is done through an hibrid solution...

Pixilis, a new Flickr youTube clone ?
Today I got an invitation to join to Pixlis, a new web based service that allow to share photos and videos.
Its seems to be not only a Flickr YouTube business model mash-up, but it should be also a web market place to sell users contents.
The question is now that maybe the Tag-Clouds should evolve to a better and proper solution...some other GUI based Filters should be designed and developed for users contents onLine sharing systems.

A new shape
After a long time, I decided to improve the usability of the blog, in order to offer a better reading experience to all readers.
I moved from Wordpress 1.5 to the latest 2.0.5 version and I found some very cool features.
Of course, suggestions and critics are really welcome.

Enron...once again!
You know that sometime ago Jeff Heer explored the Enron network through a Java based application ( created using the Prefuse toolkit ).
Today a new Java Applet is available online to explore Enron people relations that is based on the SONAR technology.

Infovis and thesaurus, a new document available
Thanks to Domenico, its now possible to have a look to his research and project for a new thesaurus, based on infovis methodologies and techniques.
The whole PDF file is in Italian, but its also possible to have a look to the English Abstract.
