Normalize

There appears to be a bit of confusion around the word "normalize" especially when it is used in the data quality context. Depending on your background, be it data quality, data modeling, statistics, chemistry, etc. normalization can have special meaning to you. Take for example the steel foundry business. In steel making normalization is part of the tempering process as described here:

Toughening process- This process is intended to produce a structure possessing good strength and ductility in steels by means of Normalizing. Improved machinability, grain structure refinement, homogenization and modification of residual stresses are among the reasons for which normalizing is done.
